Wednesday 1st August, 7pm: Celebration of Mass

Come and join us as we celebrate Mass at our prayer group this evening.  We will begin by praying the rosary together from 7pm, before Fr Stefan Park joins us to lead us in our celebration of Mass.  We will be praying particularly this evening for a successful and peaceful Olympic Games.  Hope you can come along

Wednesday 8th August, 7pm: Lectio Divina: Praying with the scriptures

Join us as we spend an evening reflecting on the Gospel using the Benedictine method of Lectio Divina.  The Blessed Sacrament will be exposed for adoration.  Simone Lia will be leading us this evening of prayer together.  Hope to see you there.

The Roman Catholic National Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham, Norfolk NR22 6AL

Come together with up to 1,500 young adults for a powerful encounter with Jesus Christ!  At Searchlight you will: meet new people - hear powerful talks - attend prayer times with inspiring and uplifting worship music - be in God’s presence through Adoration day or night - have great fun and a life changing experience!  We are planning a fantastic line up of speakers including: Sr. Roseanne Reddy from the Sisters of Life, who speaks powerfully but with great humour about the awesome gift of life.  Frankie Mulgrew, a seminarian in the Salford Diocese, also a funny and yet thought-provoking speaker.  Paschal Uche, the Friars and Sisters of the Renewal, plus loads of other inspiring musicians, workshop leaders and speakers.

Who can come?

The festival is for 16-35 yr olds. However, younger people do come with their families and older people come to help out!  So, contact the National Office if you are a bit younger or a bit older.

Where do I stay?

Camping: in your own tent or a tent provided by Youth 2000.  There are limited B&B's in the area too.

How much?

This is a donation-only event, so give what you can towards the cost and don't let money put you off coming!  Suggested donation: Adults: £100 / students, unwaged & under 18's: only £40!

Coaches are running from London to Walsingham and are available to book NOW:

Departure:   From central London at Lunchtime Thursday 23rd August and evening Friday 24th August

Return: Departs from Walsingham at lunchtime on Monday 27th August

Internship Opportunity at Notre Dame de France

The Marist community in London would like to welcome a young adult for a time of internship, to share in the mission of the vibrant inner-city parish of Notre Dame de France.  The internship offers an intensive experience working with a multi-cultural community in the heart of London.  It gives opportunity to develop further your skills in project management, organising events, delivering service to the marginalised and in various other creative areas, working in collaboration with others in the parish, to build God’s Kingdom.

Practical details:  Accommodation is provided, any interested young person will have to pay a small rent. (S)he is invited to share a certain community life-style within the “Notre Dame de Village”, which includes Marist Fathers & Sisters, and lay people, men and women: prayer, celebrations, fortnightly common meals. It would suit a student or young professional working in London – who is able to dedicate time to the mission of Notre Dame de France.

The experience includes especially the following areas:

Evangelisation:  working together with different groups of the parish in new forms of evangelization in the West End of London, in association with other local Catholic parishes.

Marginalised:    weekly sandwich service and helping in a seasonal ecumenical venture in offering overnight accommodation to the homeless. Working with refugees.

A New Thing: Flashmob Prayer & Worship

14th July 2012

An ecumenical event to welcome the Olympics to London

On the day of Pentecost, God did a new thing.  A sight was seen, a sound was heard, and Jerusalem was never the same.  Thousands turned to Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit had come.  We have a dream to see the same thing today, in this olympic year, in London.

‘A New Thing’ is a vision to see the Church unveiled to London through worship and prayer. For Christians of every creed to unite, to be Church but Church without walls.  So on July 14th, we’re taking to the streets and inviting the Church to join us!

From 11am – 12pm, we’re inviting the churches of London to come out of their buildings and sing. With one voice we’ll claim every street for Jesus and cast a net of song across the city. And as we do, we’ll see the joy of the Lord poured out on a hurting nation.

From 2 – 4pm, we’ll come together in London’s heart, Trafalgar Square.  We’ll gather as one, ‘an army of ants’, for a ‘flashmob’ of worship and prayer.  No stage, no mics, no brands, no speaker. Just the people of God in one place, at one time, with one voice seeking Him for the nation.  We’ll pray and we’ll praise, we’ll stand and we’ll kneel, we’ll shout, we’ll be silent, we’ll have a good time! But whatever we do, we’ll be seen and be heard and like Pentecost, impact our city.

Care Not Killing Rally

3rd July 2012

Westminster

On 3rd July 2012, Care Not Killing – in association with CARE and Right to Life – has organised a Rally in Westminster to promote better palliative care and oppose the legalisation of assisted suicide and euthanasia.  There will be contributions from an exciting array of expert speakers, including the Rt. Hon Ann Widdecombe, Lord Alton of Liverpool, Jim Dobbin MP, Fiona Bruce MP, Dr Peter Saunders, Brian Iddon, Kevin Fitzpatrick, Prof Lord McColl of Dulwich and others.  Please do come and be encouraged and equipped to defend the law and protect the vulnerable!

What’s the plan on 3 July?

1.  ‘How to talk to your MP about assisted suicide: a workshop’ | 10:00am – 11:00am

You can register from 9:30am and will hear from a number of speakers including Fiona Bruce MP, Dr Peter Saunders of CNK and Dan Boucher of CARE.  This first hour will provide you with material you can use and suggestions about how best to approach your Member of Parliament.  The venue will be the Emmanuel Centre at Marsham Street, just a five minute walk from Parliament.

2.  Meet with your MP | 11:00am – 2:00pm

This time has been set aside for you to meet your MP in Parliament (there are further details about how to do this below).  The Emmanuel Centre will remain open as a base throughout, serving coffee and tea, where people can wait before seeing their MP and return to afterwards.

You have the right to turn up in parliament at any time and ask to meet your MP.  However, we would encourage you to contact your MP before 3 July and ask for a meeting, ideally between 11:00am and 14:00pm.  If they offer you a time that clashes with another part of the day we would encourage you to take it nonetheless.  If it clashes with the workshop, please contact the CNK office and we will be happy to provide you with some guidance about how to get the most out of your meeting.  If your MP cannot meet you on 3 July, we would still encourage you to join us and to ask for a meeting on an alternative date in your constituency at which you can make use of everything you learn on 3 July.

3.  Parliamentary Rally to promote better palliative care and oppose the legalisation of assisted suicide and euthanasia | 2:00pm – 3:00pm

We will then return to the Emmanuel Centre for the parliamentary rally when we will hear from the parliamentarians listed above.

The Emmanuel Centre will remain open until 4:00pm for those who wish to stay and chat.

Good Counsel Network Sponsored Walk

Saturday July 14th

From Wandsworth to Wapping. 

The Good Counsel Network (GCN) are organising a sponsored walk.  The walk starts at 10am with Mass at St Mary Magdalene’s  Parish, Wandsworth, walking approximately ten miles to finish at St Patrick’s Parish, Wapping.  At St. Patrick’s there will be Benediction followed by refreshments and a chance to sit down and socialise and meet other Catholics.  Lots of young people of all ages participate in their ministry and they run internships for students to help educate and involve them in pro-life issues.  They are hoping for a good show of young people and young adults on this walk.

This is a great opportunity to participate in their life-saving ministry and an opportunity to get your school/university or work friends, family and fellow parishioners to sponsor you in supporting vulnerable women who face difficult choices with their pregnancy.

The GCN are asking all participants to raise at least £100 in sponsorship with no maximum. They are hoping to have 100 or more participants to raise thousands of pounds.  The GCN offers women practical help and moral support to help keep their child, from accommodation and financial help, baby clothes and nappies, to friendship and on-going support, advice and help for the future. They need to raise about £300,000 every year to help support the vital work of their centre that reaches out to women in need.

Youth 2000 Day of Prayer with All Night Vigil in East London

Saturday 28th July

St Margaret's Parish in Canning Town

During the day (from 10:30am): A day of prayer for 16-35 yr olds

Hosted by Youth 2000, to mark the opening weekend of the Olympics, supporting perpetual Adoration in various Churches in the East End.

Registration and Welcome from 10:30am

Followed by a day of inspiring talks, workshops, worship, small group time and a Reconciliation Service

After supper at 8:30pm: Eucharistic Healing Service

From 10pm: All-night vigil of Adoration (over 18s only)

We would love your help for the all-night vigil (from 10pm-6am) as this can only be people aged 18 and over. There are male and female sleeping areas (you would need to bring a mat, sleeping bag and pillow. The gates to the Church will be locked so it will be safe and we hope to offer breakfast at 6am for all who are present. 

I know this is not an easy thing to do, but ask you to think and pray about taking a 1 hour shift overnight. We need 2 volunteers for each slot and 2 volunteers to cook the breakfast!

Ball to Celebrate the Centenary of the Society of Our Lady of Lourdes

The Society of Our Lady of Lourdes (SOLL) is having a ball to celebrate its 100th year of taking the sick to Lourdes.  This year over 200 volunteers from all over the country are flying out 73 sick in wheel chairs and will look after and entertain them round the clock for a week’s holiday.  This is a fundraising event to support the work of SOLL. 

It will be a great night out, it is in a lovely location and it supports a great cause.  The theme of the ball is ‘Centenary Celebration of SOLL’.  The SOLL are also looking for any volunteers who might like to go to Lourdes on the pilgrimage.

Football with the Friars

The next football game with the Franciscan Friars in Canning Town will be this weekend.  This group is a chance for the lads in the group to get together for a bit of rest, relaxation, fellowship and, most importantly, football in the local park.

Afterwards we head back to the friary for a bit of social time and there will be the opportunity to join the friars for their Holy Hour at 5pm.

Brightlights 2012þ - Bookings Open
 
Friday 29th June to Monday the 2nd July
Aylesford Priory

It is that time of the year again when bookings are open for this year's Brightlights festival which is taking place from Friday 29th June to Monday the 2nd July at the historic Aylesford Priory, home to the Carmelite friars, 40 mins from London.
 
This year's theme is '12', focusing on discipleship. Starting with the feast of St Peter & St Paul on Friday, we aim to explore what it means to be a disciple today so that after attending the festival you will leave with "ears that hear (and) eyes that see." (Proverbs 20:12).
 
To help us with this aim we have arranged what we hope is a stimulating, challenging and inspiring program. This includes guest speakers Marguerite Barankitse, who survived the Burundi civil war where she set up a children's shelter called 'Maison Shalom' that now looks after around 20,000 war orphans, and theologian Fr. Tim Menzieswho will provide insight into how we can remain true to our faith in often challenging circumstances.
 
There will be inspiring and practical workshops and seminars run by groups like Catholic voices, SPEC and Verbum Dei and opportunities to experience liturgies, daily mass and reconciliation with hundreds of other young catholic adults.
 
On top of this we have a fantastic music line up with bands like Indecisive who recently played at Wembley and the o2, drama from Rise, a catholic theatre company, not to mention our hog roast, BBQ and camping field giving us our unique festival atmosphere. All this will take place at Aylesford priory which offers participants not only the opportunity to meet with the resident Carmelite friars but also to experience the peace of the beautiful priory grounds.

Yet again, gentle candlelight and stirring music will fill the parish of St Patrick´s in Soho on a Saturday evening. Passersby will be invited into the church to light a candle. They may be in the church for just a minute or two. In that time they will have an opportunity to be in the Lord's presence, experience beautiful music and Christian fellowship. 
 
After 6pm Mass, there will be an opportunity for adoration, prayer, singing, confession, and to talk to people happy to share the faith. We invite you to come and see. 
 
NIGHTFEVER is an initiative of young Christians who want to pass on the joy that they have experienced themselves. Inviting people to encounter God's love through street evangelisation, Adoration, Reconciliation, music & testimonies. Nightfever started right after the World Youth Day 2005 (Cologne/Germany) as a regular evening of adoration, worship and has led many people to encounters with Christ.
Nightfever is run by young people, students and professionals from different faculties, churches, seminaries, spiritual communities and orders. Everyone using their own gifts, talents, resources and capabilities for the service of Christ. This is how we live and celebrate unity in diversity. The evening begins with Mass, after which the Blessed Sacrament is exposed until the end of the evening. Teams of people then venture out on to the streets of London to share their faith with them and gently invite them to come into the Church, even just to light a candle for a prayer intention they have. Once inside, people can just sit quietly and listen to the music which will be playing throughout the evening, they can bring a candle before the Blessed Sacrament, leave their intentions in the 'worry box' at the altar, take a Word of God from the 'joy box' & even receive the Sacrament of Reconcilation if they decide to make that step. It is a very gentle evangelisation evening, meeting people where they are and inviting them to take a little step towards God.
 
Today, Nightfever is run on a regular basis in over 30 German cities and in various countries.
 
Please do come along & join in this mission in which ever way you feel able, even if you are just praying in the Church your presence & prayers are invaluable!

What’s on at the Corpus Christi Prayer Group

Wednesday 25th April, 7pm: St George – Patron & Protector of England

Having celebrated the Feast of St George, England’s Patron Saint, on Monday, we will be focussing on the life (and legends) of St George at our prayer group this week.  We will hear what is known of the life of St George, and use his example as the focus of our prayer and meditation.  Although much is shrouded in mystery, come along and be surprised about the valuable lessons we can learn to build our own faith.  To mark St George’s  Day, during this evening, we will be consecrating our prayer group, and England to Our Lady of Walsingham.

This evening Fr Angelus will be joining us to lead us in a Eucharistic Healing Service.  Those of you who have been to one of these services before will attest that they are a powerful opportunity to reflect and pray about those aspects of our hearts need God’s healing grace.  The Blessed Sacrament will be exposed with the opportunity to come forward to receive a blessing should you so wish.  Hope you can join us.

606 Jazz Club Gospel Brunch

The next Corpus Christi Prayer Group social will be a trip to the 606 Jazz Club for one of their Gospel Brunches.

Entry is £10 (the fee goes directly to the musicians, so you’ll be helping to support struggling artists).  If we want to have food there, we need to book a table in advance. Youth 2000 Fundraising Sports Day

This has been provisionally set for Saturday 19th May at 2pm in Hyde Park.  Many of you attended this even last year, and it was a great afternoon which also raised money to support the Youth 2000 summer festival in Walsingham.

I am looking to put together a Corpus Christi Prayer Group team to take part in the sports day, so if you are interested, let me know.

Parish resource day – How to reach non churchgoing Catholics

This resource day is to support ministry and outreach to non churchgoing (lapsed) Catholics.  The day is part of a national tour called ‘Crossing the Threshold’ which is an initiative of the Department for Evangelisation and Catechesis, Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales.

It has been organised in response to concerns repeatedly expressed by priests and parishioners about the large number of baptised who never or rarely attend Sunday Mass.

Speakers include: Archbishop Vincent Nichols (Westminster) and Bishop Richard Moth (The Forces), among others. It is hoped that parishes consider sending a representative.

'Get Set for SitC2012' – Preparation afternoon

Spirit in the City is the annual festival of Catholic Faith in the West End of London.  This year, it will be held from Thursday 7th June – Saturday 9th June.  

The Spirit in the City core team requests the pleasure of your company for a special afternoon in preparation for the upcoming Festival.  Corpus Christi parish is one of the parishes supporting the event, so it would be great to have some of the Corpus Christi Prayer Group at this preparation meeting, to see how member of the prayer group, past and present, could support this fantastic event.

Corpus Christi Prayer Group - Healing service and Reconciliation

Wednesday 21st March, 7pm: Eucharistic Healing Service

We continue our Lenten reflection this week with an evening of prayer for healing in all aspects of our lives.  Fr Angelus will be joining us to lead us in this evening of grace.  The Blessed Sacrament will be exposed, with the opportunity to come forward and receive a blessing, as we praise God in word and song.

Wednesday 28th March, 7pm: Lenten Reconciliation Service

This is a chance to spend an evening in personal examination and prayer.  We will be using scripture to examine ourselves and ask for God’s forgiveness as we prepare for Holy Week.  Priests will be available for the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

Men’s Group – Football with the Friars

The lads will be meeting for their next game of football THIS SUNDAY (25th March).

This group meets every month or so and is an opportunity for some time of ‘fellowship’ together over a game of football.  The Franciscan Friars from Canning Town usually join us for a game in the local park.  New faces are always welcome.

Afterwards we head back to the friary for a bit of social time and there will be the opportunity to join the friars for their Holy Hour at 5pm.

Images of God’ workshop is an opportunity for young adults (18-35) to explore the images of God presented to us in scripture and to reflect on how their own images of God. The workshop will be prayerful and experiential in nature. It will take place at Vaughan House on Thursday 22nd March at 7.30pm. There is no charge.

Chrism Mass: St George's Cathedral Wed April 4th

For some years now, it's been a tradition at the Chrism Mass to give out small cards with a thank-you message to our priests. This began as a sort of counter-demonstration to the people who stood with a banner demanding the ordination of women. They don't come any more, but the need for a message of support for pur priests has never been stronger.

We now have a strong group that greets the WESTMINSTER Chrism Mass with a big placard and lovely cards.

What about Southwark? 

I  need your support.  I'll be there with the Thank-You placard - it's a nice one, (doesn't look nutty, is professionally made etc, so don't panic!) - and some beautiful printed cards.

Can you come and stand with me? It's on the Wednesday of Holy Week, ie Wed April 4th. We need to be there at 10.30am to greet the priests as they arrive. You don't need to stay for the whole of the Chrism Mass  (although it's worth attending!).

Nightfever London

Saturday April 21st, 5pm onwards

NIGHTFEVER is an initiative of young Christians who want to pass on the joy that they have experienced themselves. Inviting people to encounter God's love through street evangelisation, Adoration, Reconciliation, music & testimonies. Nightfever started right after the World Youth Day 2005 (Cologne/Germany) as a regular evening of adoration, worship and has led many people to encounters with Christ.

Nightfever is run by young people, students and professionals from different faculties, churches, seminaries, spiritual communities and orders. Everyone using their own gifts, talents, resources and capabilities for the service of Christ. This is how we live and celebrate unity in diversity. The evening begins with Mass, after which the Blessed Sacrament is exposed until the end of the evening. Teams of people then venture out on to the streets of London to share their faith with them and gently invite them to come into the Church, even just to light a candle for a prayer intention they have. Once inside, people can just sit quietly and listen to the music which will be playing throughout the evening, they can bring a candle before the Blessed Sacrament, leave their intentions in the 'worry box' at the altar, take a Word of God from the 'joy box' & even receive the Sacrament of Reconcilation if they decide to make that step. It is a very gentle evangelisation evening, meeting people where they are and inviting them to take a little step towards God.
