Padre Airton Freire at Westminster Cathedral Hall

“Do on Earth the will of our Heavenly Father. For I saw eyes that asked, even though they never said a thing." Padre Airton Freire.

On behalf of Fundacao Terra, Padre Airton Freire from the North East of Brazil will be giving a talk on the theme 'God is among us'.

The social work carried out by Padre Airton started two years after his ordination, when he met the community of Trash Street and was profoundly touched by what was happening in that community at the time, where extreme poverty reigned everywhere. People were left to fend for themselves, feeding on leftover food found in trashcans or from alms given
by people passing by; "living" in cardboard, tin or mud shanties; no sanitation of any kind, no electric lights, no pavement on the streets, no school, no medical assistance. 25 years on Fundacao Terra works with the very poorest in this area and provides essential food, schooling, water and other essential medical services (www.fundacaoterra.or.br).

Padre Airton is a deeply charismatic priest with many gifts of the Holy Spirit and his devotion to the Divine Mercy prayer has played a huge role in his ministry.

There will be a full interview of Padre Airtons in the 'Good News' Magazine in the March 2012 issue.

Time: 7.30pm
Date: 24th February 2012
Venue: Westminster Cathedral Hall
